Part IV: Spin – God’s Wild Children: #4 (Chapter 74)
After Mr. MacIntyre caught us cussing, we went inside and spent the rest of the morning pitching pennies and playing penny poker.
I lost all my money; even though he wasn’t smart
enough, I accused Danny of cheating.
Nana made him split his winnings with me.
When she wasn’t looking, Danny stuck his tongue
out at me. “Sore loser.”
“Goes to show what you know.”
At noon, Nana served us sliced tomatoes and sweet
corn on the cob. I gobbled down four ears, and several tomato slices.
Danny snickered and pointed at me. “Samantha Anne,
Samantha Anne; eat like that, you’ll never find a man,” Danny said when Nana
went into the living room to answer the phone.
I kicked his shins.
“OW!”
From
the living room, “Stop it, or I’ll get the belt!”
The bickering and fighting went on and on until bedtime.
