Part V: Snakes (Chapter 97)
Now that Sheldon has settled down, the Double Bing feels stiff in my pocket, and I look for an exit ‒ to a place where I can quietly inhale my latest lover: chocolate, crushed peanuts, and cherry nougat.
Sheldon and Daniel are eyeing each other from the opposite
sides of the room, their fists clenched, their faces angry.
A ragged line of people keeps them apart.
My people act as if they have forgotten about what has taken
place, but I know that another secret has been glued into the family album, the
one that is supposed to stay closed forever.
I slip out into the darkness where I devour the Double Bing.
And wonder what the future holds.
